Samantha Ylva Hawks (née Beasley) has been active in exploring photography since her youth. After working for multiple years as a model for numerous distinguished international photographers, she now applies her knowledge of the creative process from in front of the camera to her role behind the camera. She seeks to understand and document her subjects in a way that is both ambiguous and highly personal; confrontational and yet maintaining space between subject and viewer.

Her work has been published in MATH Magazine, SHOTS magazine, and Streit House's 'Half Year' zine, and has been selected for exhibition projects such as The BIG PICTURE Colorado, The BIG PICTURE Humboldt, New York based Streit House Space, and LightBox Gallery's PDX 40 exhibition (of which her piece was selected for the Juror's 1st place award).

She studied Art History at Portland State University. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
